Historical Society Requests Soldier Data

*Taken from “Letters to the Editor” in the Wayne County Outlook.

Dear Editor,

We go to cemeteries and put new flags on our soldiers’ graves to honor their memory. That was the intent of the Wayne county historical society when they released “A Military Review of Wayne County” in 1999.

However, at least 700 veterans were left out because every book publisher has a deadline and many people did not know about the book. That’s why I am renewing the project in an attempt to have the public bring us photos of their soldiers and their military records to scan. We want to honor all those left out of the military book.

Remember that every day a soldier from Wayne County is putting his life on the line for our country. Help us honor them by adding your family’s soldiers to our collection of military books on display for the public to access.

Please bring photos in uniform, military records and even photos of soldiers’ tombstones to us at 65 North Main Street, Monticello.

Thank you,
Gary M. Davis
